I used to work at a sign company in the 1990’s. Terrible pay but so fun to be creative everyday. Hand lettering is all we did. Left when computers/vinyl started to take over. A few years ago I went back there to hopefully purchase a hand lettering brush. The guy who greeted me at the door had this confused look on his face when I asked for a specific brush. He said,…”Gotta be honest with you,…it’s probably been 15 years since anybody has opened a can of paint around here.” Talk about a gut punch. Felt like a death in the family.

My uncle, from the WW2 generation, had this talent also. He'd address Christmas cards to us in fancy calligraphy. It's a beautiful art form. Let's keep it from dying out. Maybe with the return of teaching cursive in schools more will try it.
